PETER PETS

As I’ve said before, I was raised with animals as my best friends.  I liked them better than people, and still do.  With people you never  know if they really like you, but with animals you know you are always live bait.

Unfortunately, Alice  had a different view than I did.  She thought they were cute, but couldn’t take the rapid increase in population which meant lugging tons of food (approximately $5.00 per day) to feed them, always in the evening, just when she had a nice, human dinner waiting.

She called Jeremy Bailey, of “Animal Capture Wildlife Control” (310) 551-0901, whom she saw on the Larry King Show.  A more likeable person you couldn’t ask for.   Still, I was devastated at losing those pets.  I loved walking up the steps beside the pool, listening to their snarling and snapping at each other to see who could get the biggest share of the meal.  Once, they nipped me when I tried feeding them by hand!  But, it didn’t hurt, and I didn’t get Rabies!

Even though it was fascinating to see how quickly Jeremy worked; how he handled the animals and assured us that they would be transplanted to a wilder place and not euthanized, I was upset that Alice had taken such a stand.   And she didn’t care about the money spent!

Jeremy placed six long cages in different areas of our back yard, filled them with dry dog food, both inside and out.  Like Hansel and Gretel, they followed the pieces into the cage.  Jeremy then took them to his pick-up truck where he gave them water for the trip to their new home.  The adult ones were very quiet, the young ones were whimpering.  It took several days to get them all; yes, it was sad...

Now I only have the squirrels and we don’t dare feed them!  Everyone says “Adopt a dog!   Get a cat!”   But I guess Alice and I are odd balls because all of our pets, except one,  have come to us on their own. We’re always looking in the yard for a stray!

BEST DOG IN THE WORLD

CU Iguana longing

Unusual picture of Alice in the air and Dickie posing with his back to the camera!

"I have always loved animals.  As an only child, raised by my father,

I grew up with close to 40-cats, 1-donkey, 2-alligators, 4-dogs, and several birds."

Dickie was the dog of my life; she could take orders and pose!

As a 4 year old, I lived in London with my grandparents (they owned dachshunds as well),

four doctors, two of which were sons of doctors.  A few years later, Dickie came into my life.

She was smart and not a danger to children.  Dickie was bought as a puppy;

she passed away under the bed covers next to Alice’s leg.

Yes... she was some dog!
